The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region established the Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) in 2000 with the goal of strengthening Hong Kong's technological capabilities in various industries. ASTRI possesses a range of research and development capabilities divided into seven different divisions, such as Communications Technologies, IC Design (Analog), Opto-electronics, and Software and Systems, among others. Focusing on financial technologies, intelligent manufacturing, next generation networks, and medical and health, ASTRI works to ensure Hong Kong remains competitive in technology-based industries.
